Nonprofit Organization Grants
The Empower Grant
The Fund for Women created this grant to significantly impact the lives of girls and women who have encountered substantial obstacles or barriers to achieving self-sufficiency. The FFW Empower Grant awards $150,000 to an area non-profit over the course of a three-year partnership to support programming specifically designed to help girls and women grow, develop and advance.
We are currently reviewing applications from non-profits for this grant and will be making an announcement soon as to the new recipient starting in 2025.
The first non-profit recipient of the FFW Empower Grant was Arbor Development. The grant they received, initially, in 2018, was extended until the end of 2024.
The selection of Arbor Housing & Development was made after review of nine proposals made to the Fund for Women from area human service agencies in the fall of 2018. “The Fund for Women wanted to be proactive in addressing an unmet or underserved need in the community,” said Amanda Chafee, president. “Arbor’s proposal fit our mission so well, and we’re excited about the opportunity to help women at their most vulnerable time.”
Until the end of the year, women wishing to apply for support through the Empower Grant must be residents of Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler or Yates counties and be receiving case management through Arbor’s Family Self-Sufficiency, Domestic Violence, or Supportive Housing programs. Individual grant decisions will be made by a three-member committee and each recipient will be eligible for a maximum of $1,500.
